What is Planned Giving?
A planned gift is an opportunity for you and your loved ones to develop a deep relationship with the Boys & Girls Club to help ensure future generations of local youth have elevated access to high-quality and life-changing programs. Together, we can empower all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential for years to come.
There are several ways you can invest in our planned giving program. Explore the options below to determine the best way for you to leave a lasting legacy in our community.
One of the easiest ways to support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Benton and Franklin Counties’ mission is to leave the organization a percentage of your Qualified Retirement Account. This is easy to do without the need to update your will or pay attorneys fees. This option also passes assets that would otherwise be subject to ordinary income taxes out of your estate to a charitable organization that doesn’t pay federal or state income taxes. A gift from your retirement account can also reduce or eliminate any applicable state or federal estate taxes.
Another legacy gift to support our work is to leave our organization a bequest in your will, living trust, or with a codicil. A significant benefit of making a gift by bequest is that it allows you to continue to own the assets you will leave to charity during your life, allowing you to leave a lasting legacy upon your death.
Often a bequest is simply a set amount or percentage of an estate set aside to make a gift to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Benton and Franklin Counties.
Example language: I hereby give, devise and bequeath _________ and No/100 dollars (or a specific percentage determined as of the date of my death, or a description of property) to Boys & Girls Clubs of Benton and Franklin County, a nonprofit organization located at PO Box 1322, Pasco, WA 99301, Federal Tax ID #91-1673327, for Boys & Girls Clubs general use and purpose (or specific purpose if so inclined).
A Qualified Charitable Distribution allows taxpayers age 70½ or older to make tax-free charitable gifts of up to $100,000 per year directly from their Individual Retirement Accounts to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Benton and Franklin Counties.
This is a great option for an individual who does not need the additional income and wants to avoid “double taxation” on the required minimum distribution (RMD).
Recommend a grant from your Donor Advised Fund to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Benton and Franklin Counties. While our organization does not sponsor a donor-advised fund, it is a qualified nonprofit that is able to receive grants from DAFs. Donor Advised Funds allow you to realize the tax benefits of charitable giving in a single year while spreading those gifts to charities over multiple years.
When you establish a Charitable Lead Trust, the trust pays income to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Benton and Franklin Counties first, typically for a term of years. After that, the trust assets are passed back to you or other family members you designate.
Charitable Lead Trusts are a tool for donors who want to fund a gift now and transfer tax-advantaged wealth to another generation.
Do you have a life insurance policy that you no longer need now that your children are out of college and on their own? Life insurance is a low-cost, simple way to make a significant planned gift. Simply name Boys & Girls Clubs of Benton and Franklin Counties as a partial, contingent, or full beneficiary or even the owner of your policy.
